Illustration Friday -- Feet
I had a few days to take off from work before I lost them, so today I decided to work on my Illustration Friday theme. This week is all about feet. I thought "Baby's Feet in Sand" would be a nice project.
Well, it went like this. I sketched the feet and sand with just a pencil. I didn't like it. I added color to it with my colored pencils. I didn't like it. Then, Cathie reminded me that they were watercolor pencils so maybe I should try wetting it. Finally, this was the outcome. I have mixed feelings about it and may do another design later. But as my first real pseudo-watercolor work, I think its not too bad. Unfortunately, the paper wrinkled slightly when it got wet and the scanner picked it up; hence the shadows in the bottom center of the picture.

Interesting image, a bit unsettling till I read the explanation. Very cool approach. :-)
dont yah just want to eat the chubby little toes..
I think it is very cute baby feet. Nice job and a learning experience.
love
Rrramone,
I'm glad the explanation settled your thoughts. I'm glad I tried something new. Now I know I need a lot of practice on that.
Shannonjyl,
Baby feet are the best! Thanks for stopping by.
Unknown,
Thanks for the supportive comment. I love to learn and realize it is not all as easy as I think. I have to practice practice practice.
This is an accurate depiction and the colours and composition are good, but maybe baby's feet just aren't meant to be seen in isolation like this.
Ian,
Thanks for commenting on my site. I think maybe you are correct. Without the baby's body, the feet just aren't as effective.
I'm glad you explained your process, makes this even more interesting, very cute and skilled illo. really has the look and feel of a sandscape
Hardwax,
Thanks. I picked up some watercolor paper, so hopefully I'll be trying more watercoloring.
yeah, I love these big feet! j'aime la "matière".
dod: Thanks for stopping by. Glad you liked these buggers. Really haven't gone back to foolin' around with the watercolors again. Maybe next week's theme will be a good candidate for watercolors.
