Doodle of the Day -- 5-24-2006

Well, this will probably be my last post until next week. We are all off to Edinboro, PA for Memorial Day weekend. I plan on packing up my art pads, pencils, and pens. Hopefully, I will be inspired by the trees and animals around Cathie's parents house and I will have lots of things to share upon my return.

With that said, I leave you with three things I have done in the last few days.

This first one I call "Shadow Lady." I wanted to try out my new pencils (Prismacolor Turquoise 7B, 4B, 2B, and 2H) that I just bought. They were on clearance at JoAnn's. How could I resist. So, this little lady appeared.

The next thing I drew was "King Doodle." I guess it is a character inspired by a deck of cards. He, or she, was done using a .45mm Micron pen. I started with an oval and the rest just happened.

This last one is called "RFP Doodle." I did this as my eyes started to glaze over from reading this RFP for work. The words and letters started to "lift" off the page. I grabbed my .45mm Micron pen again and went to work. My eyes are better now.

Your 3rd pic captures my work day perfectly (if it was a computer) :D

Have a nice trip!

Hey Lou- nice sketches! I love prismacolor pencils- the soft colors are awesome. In response to your question about blob sketching, I lay down the blob with a fat tip marker, usually a prismacolor marker or a Sanford highlighter pen. On the samples I posted on my page, I then used a black micron on top of some of them for the details, or a black paper mate ball point pen. Just smear out a few blobs and study them for minute and see if you can visualize a face or something in there, then throw on the details. Funny stuff can result!

Vern: This is only half my time, the other half is on a computer as well. I'm just glad that work provides a laptop and I can work at the kitchen table, on the couch in from of the TV, or outside while watching the kids play.

Thanks.

Lee: And this is a small one. My last one was twice as big.

Patrick: Thanks for the description of your blobs. I'm also a fan of ALL Prismacolor pencil, both graphite and colored. Although, I still like my Staedtler graphites.

Thanks for the kind words.

Enjoy your weekend! I wish you good weather.

Nice doodles, and fun to read the thought/reasons for their existence. Watch out for the 7B graphite. Once they get up in numbers they are a bitch to erase. Almost silky huh?

All three are cool pieces. I especially like your little Shawdow Lady-very intrigueing-would definitely like to know what was in your mind when you sketched her. Interesting all, and love the skill in these!
